Machrie Bay Golf Club sunset

2020 MBGC Subs

Posted on January 30, 2020 | by Hamish Bannatyne

The MBGC subscription for 2020 is £125, which we hope you will agree represents excellent value. Machrie Bay Golf Club AGM will be held on 19th March at 7.30pm in Machrie Hall.

Dear Members,
I hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year and have
wintered well so far.
It has been a rather wet and windy winter so far but the only
competition to be cancelled was the annual 2 club competition . The other winter competitions have carried on as normal. With the usual stalwarts, or maybe masochists would be a better word. If you are about on a Tuesday come and join us at 12 noon. It is off the yellow tees so your handicap will not be affected.
The annual winter league between all the clubs on the island is
under way and I am pleased to say, at time of writing, after 3 matches, Machrie is topping the league undefeated. Two games to go against Lamlash at Corrie and Brodick at Whiting Bay. The club held a very successful annual dinner in November at Shiskine Golf Club. Thanks to Alan and Siobhan for an excellent meal.
Before you know it the summer season will be starting . The summer medals are held on Tuesdays . The starting times vary slightly as the lighter nights approach. See club fixture list.
I would particularly like to see more Ladies competing in The Lady Mary Cup.
I am pleased to tell you that Katie has decided to continue with catering and will be open for business around 24th March. So please give her as much support as possible. But I have to warn you if there is only one scone left on a Tuesday. It’s mine. (Captains privilege)
As you will notice the fees (subs) have risen by £5 to £125 for 2020.
I would suggest that the fees are still very good value for money.
There is no news about the course development but it is not dead and negotiations are continuing .
Looking forward to a new season.
Happy golfing.
Campbell Laing
Captain.

Peter Emsley

Posted on January 15, 2020 | by Hamish Bannatyne
Peter Emsley getting the Dougie Macfarlane award in 2012. This is for outstanding contribution of work & service for MBGC & Arran golf.
Machrie is going to really miss Peter
& we all owe him a huge debt of gratitude in terms of what he did for this Club .

I am sure many of you have fond memories of Peter on the golf course, as a colleague on the committee and as a friend. He always had time for a chat and a word of encouragement. He was a past Captain and committee member and for many years was the guiding light of Machrie Bay Golf Club. He was the only member to be awarded honorary membership, which reflected the esteem in which he was held.

Captain Campbell Laing said…” I knew Peter for nearly 30 years and worked with him on Pirnmill Improvements Association and on the Golf Club Committee.
He was always a thorough gentleman and you could
guarantee that if he was involved in anything he would give 100%. “

We all send our condolences to Paul and the family,

Corrie, NOT Carradale!

Posted on August 20, 2019 | by Hamish Bannatyne
Great day at Corrie GC
A few Machrie Bay members in this photo.
This was the day in 2019 when we were supposed to go to Carradale Golf Club.
The trip was postponed till October.
Wind / ferry disruption made us have a lovely game at Corrie Golf Club instead.
